The Power of Procrastination

What most people call procrastination I call thinking. I don’t know if this works with everyone, but it works with me. When I procrastinate on something it gives that something time to linger in my sub conscious. For example, when I was in college I would always work on homework before bed, or I would always work on the hardest problem before bed because it would get stuck in my sub-conscious. I would think about it while I slept, and more often then not I would dream about whatever the assignment or problem was. I would never wake up rested, but I would always have the answer or be closer to having the answer.

Back in May I started my parent corporation October Revolution. I spent about two months building out the business plan and forecasting financials for a company called Hsawaknow, LLC which October Revolution owns. I am not going to go into too much detail, but I set the company aside for a couple of months.  One night, I couldn’t sleep. I stayed up thinking until 3 in the morning, and it dawned on me how to change the ice cream industry. Which really has nothing to do with Ice Cream, but it is an amazing idea. At least it was at 3 AM that night. It went on back burner because I either needed around $100K or I needed to learn a new set of skills. I’ll talk about it later.

Come August of this year,  John Vasquez quit his job at a Fortune 500 company (you need to follow his podcast JV Impacts or none of this will make sense) and I became owner of JV Impacts. We help people get motivated about life, get healthy for their life, and live a better life. This started the JV Impacts podcast, the Roids to Riches book, a life coaching business, a health app, and an online coaching platform that I am working on. In the midst of all this, in my head, I couldn’t see a long term play. It seemed like we were every other Joe in town that had a podcast and was doing online marketing. I spent days writing, thinking, writing, thinking, writing, thinking, and then I got distracted with another project we were working on. Weeks went by and in the back of my mind there was this little nagging voice asking what about the strategy of JV Impacts. Then I was driving home from my day job as a Relationship Manger, and it hit me. I can’t talk about it yet, but it is going to be amazing.

Which now leads me to Age of Radio. Age of Radio is about shaping the universe. Humans are all interconnected, and we all have great stories that can help people. Age of Radio provides products and services that help people tell these stories. I spent the last four months thinking about what the hell that means, and what these products and services are. After four months of it lingering in the back of my mind and sifting in and out of my conscious it started taking shape. Working backwards over the next 6 years (I think in decades, I will be 40 in 6 years) It all started making sense and shaping in my head.

However, now that I worked my way back to this point in time I am stuck with the dilemma of I either acquiring more money or a larger skill set. I made the decision that I don’t want to start getting employees yet because it may ruin the strategy of October Revolution Corp. I spent a few months pissed off at the corporation I work for and thought about getting a different job to boost my income to the mid six figures. Something meaningless like financial analysis, derivatives, or wealth management. Then I remembered how much I dislike capitalism, so that didn’t seem like a viable option.

I ended up staying with the company I work for. My job is pretty meaningless which is what I want because it allows my mind to think about important matters. However, there are some problems with having a meaningless job which I will address another time. The good news is, now that a total of 6 months have passed, my mind has come to the following conclusions.

I need to do the following in the order that I list them:

  1. Get great and working 80 to 100 hours a week
  2. Learn Front End Website Development: HTML, CSS, Java Script, Jquery, and java script frameworks
  3. Learn Back End Website Development: PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, and .Net
  4. Learn C and C++

These are the basics of what I need to know to get Age of Radio and Age of Radio IX to where I want them. I am planning on launching Age of Radio IX in 2020. This gives me two years to get up to speed. It took me 6 months to organize this and plan a rough draft of what the next 6 years have in store. Live in the now, but plan for the long term.
